Bathing at Chōwabashi

The Spa at Chōwabashi has been carefully designed to recreate the authentic atmosphere of a traditional Japanese onsen.

Our rejuvenating baths, pool, sauna, and cold plunge provide a serene and restorative experience that mirrors the charm and tranquility of Japan’s famed hot springs.

Yukata (浴衣)
Although the word yukata (浴衣) literally means “bath robe,” it’s not the fluffy white kind most guests expect. It's a light cotton kimono provided at ryokan (旅館) to be worn before and after bathing, as well as while relaxing.

Our imported, Japanese-made yukata help create as authentic of a bathing experience as one might find in Japan.
Daiyokujo (大浴場)
The centerpiece of the Spa is our daiyokujo(大浴場), a large soaking bath for healing and relaxation. Although not nearly as big as what one might find at a ryokan in Japan, it's a midsize bath that can fit 4-6 people comfortably.

Ofuro (お風呂)
Our secondary bath, the ofuro (お風呂), comfortably fits two adults and is perfect for enjoying a different water temperature or enhancing a soak with therapeutic bath salts (nyūyokuzai, 入浴剤).
Sauna (サウナ)
Reaching temperatures of up to 220°F, our sauna offers a deeply purifying heat for up to six adults. Following both Japanese and Finnish customs, water infused with aromatic oils can be poured over the stones to create löyly -- the gentle wave of steam that envelops the body and calms the mind.
Mizuburo (水風呂)
Right beside the sauna, our mizuburo (水風呂), or cold plunge bath, awaits -- an essential part of the cycle of heat and cool that helps achieve totonou (整う): the blissful balance of body and mind that one finds in Japanese sauna.
Pool (プール)
Uncommon even at onsen in Japan, our pool is ideal for a cool dip between soaks and adds a distinctive dimension to the traditional bathing experience.
